Mushrooms for Food, Medicine and Ecological Regeneration
This workshop will cover basic understanding of the role that mushrooms and fungi play in the health and nourishment of plants, animals and the environment. We will cover basic identification and lifecycle information with an emphasis on the activities that we can participate in as gardeners, landscape designers, food providers and medicine users to encourage beneficial fungi to enrich our lives. The class will include both sterile and natural mushroom cultivation techniques combined with discussion about species selection for this region. Sources of spawn and spores will be provided with suggestions about appropriate propagation methods used to introduce mushrooms in our environments. Hands on demonstration will include building a mushroom grow bed outdoors and designing and building a mycorrhizal inoculants grow pit. We will also observe mushrooms that may be on site at Woodbine at the time of the class.

Meals: please bring a sack lunch and a reusable mug and water bottle.

Cost: A sliding scale is being offered to provide an opportunity for people with low income to participate. We ask that you pay the top amount if you can afford to do so.

Materials: A limited number of spawn grow kits will be available for registered participants.  Kit price $25.00 in addition to the workshop fee.
