Introduction to Aquaponics
Date: Coming Soon
Personal and Community Food Production Systems
This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to understand the basic components of building and maintaining an aquaponics system which combines a fish tank to grow a source of protein and a grow bed which allows production of vegetables, fruits and herbs. Water pumped from the fish tank into the grow bed provides nutrients to the plants. The plants and grow bed media along with naturally occurring microbes clean the water which is filtered back into the fish tank thus completing a natural and highly productive re-circulating system.
During the workshop, participants will gain knowledge about personal and community food security as well as hands on experience building a small scale aquaponics system. Participants will leave the workshop with information, plans and resources for building their own system.
Instructors: JD and Tawnya Sawyer
Meals: please bring a sack lunch and a reusable water bottle.
Cost: A sliding scale is being offered to provide an opportunity for people with low income to participate. We ask that you pay the top amount if you can afford to do so.
