Introduction to Natural Building

Gain a basic understanding of the principles, methodologies, and materials used in natural building. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll help create needed structures at Woodbine Ecology Center and also learn how to: assess and find local materials and resources; utilize natural building to reduce your carbon footprint; find meaningful connections with your natural environment; and create beautiful, healthy, and efficient structures. The workshop starts Friday night with an opening ceremony, meet-and-greet, and evening presentation.

  • Cob and Adobe
  • Waddle and Daub
  • Timber Frames
  • Natural Paints and Plasters
  • Passive Solar Design
  • Indigenous Building Design
  • Reclaimed Materials
  • Cold Frame and Greenhouse Design
  • Local building regulations
  • and much more!

The majority of the weekend will be hands-on. No previous experience is required, only an open mind, enthusiasm, and clothes to get dirty in!

Meals: Includes all meals–Friday dinner, three meals on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.

Lodging: Camping is included. Please bring your own equipment.

Materials: You will go home with a CD that includes electronic versions of resources and handouts.

Cost: $375-$275. A sliding scale is being offered to provide an opportunity for people with low income to participate. We ask that you pay the top amount if you can afford to do so.
